    Description

    Article no.: 9783903334472

From the publisher: "The women at Klaragården know something about losing things, they know what longing is. Between their entry into the world and their ending up in front of Modigh's analogue medium format camera their destinies have unfolded and shaped them. The details of these lives are not known, but now we get to see their faces, their gaze, their posture, their jewellery, tattoos, clothing and accessories and the energy their respective portraits provide. They have come from somewhere and are going somewhere and Modigh has harvested a version of them from the river of time."
    /Jenny Maria Nilsson

In addition to my work as an artist, I have worked with the homeless off and on for twenty years. It never occurred to me to take even one picture, until Britt Marie asked me to take one of hers. She knew I was a photographer and didn't have a picture of herself. After she got the picture back, she wrote a poem. A photograph is proof of one's existence and her poem made me think about maybe I don't just take their picture, maybe it is giving something. Also in the act of photography itself. That energy that comes from an encounter has been the core of the series. I set up a studio based on that. I got to know the women through Klaragården in Stockholm. The women I photographed are without a home but a home is not only physical, a home is to be at home within oneself. The most common thing is a longing.

"We bind up wounds by reflecting in each other confirming that we are not alone. In these encounters, I can feel on the verge of falling in love. I looked at someone looking into herself and thought I saw a longing, or maybe this longing is mine?"
