Seven years handlar om kvinnor från andra länder som gift sig med danska män som sedan misshandlar dem. Kvinnorna i den här boken utsätts systematiskt för våld och har ingen möjlighet till skilsmässa innan de bott i Danmark i sju år. Skulle de ändå välja att bryta upp innan dess är de helt skyddslösa, och kan utvisas till sina hemländer. Där väntar nästa mardröm: att kanske tvingas leva som prostituerad eller hotas till livet av sin egen familj.
The women in this book are living with violence meted out to them on a daily basis from their Danish husbands with no recourse to divorce as a viable option. According to the Danish immigration statutes, they face being deported from Denmark if they choose to leave their violent spouses before having resided inside the nation for a perios of seven years. Should a woman be sent back to her native country, she often faces the fate of living as a prostitute, ostracized by her own family or dealing with a direct threat on her life.

These women living without hope, are situated as far away from the art world´s galleries and museums as can be imagined. All the same, they have entrusted artist/photographer Tina Enghoff and adviser Uzma Ahmed Andresen with their stories and their faces. The result is the photo book Seven years - seven women´s stories and twenty-nine photographs of just as many fates.

"Where do we cross over the line of our own threshold of pain? How long can we live with the fact that women who incontrovertibly possess the status of residing legally in denmark for years are sometimes being compelled to live in disgracefully abject and debasing circumstances?"
Tina Enghoff, born in 1957, lives in Copenhagen. Previous books by her are Out of a time(Journal 1999), Possible relatives(Journal 2004) and Dogwalk(Journal 2008).
